See ya later, Pixieset and Wix. Showit has entered the chat as the best website builder for photographers.
Many a photographer — no matter if you’re a wedding photographer, family photographer, or doing business or brand photos — has experienced the woes of managing and maintaining a website for their business. And searching for the best website builder to use can be a real trial. Website builders are a dime a dozen, and I don’t know about you, but they all seem to claim to be “drag and drop.”
Showit is a website builder that’s gaining a lot of traction in the photography world, and for good reason. The websites are beautiful, integrative with lots of platforms, and easy to edit Here are a few of my favorite reasons for photographers to use Showit:
Showit’s integration with WordPress allows you to have a unique and creative blog design with all of the SEO power of WordPress. 30% of blogs on the internet use WordPress. Your designer will make a custom template for your blog, and then when you blog on WordPress, your blog content will populate in the template. This also allows you access to popular WordPress plugins like Yoast for SEO.
SEO (search engine optimization) can sound like a scary term. It sounds technical and overwhelming. However, Showit makes SEO for photographers easy. You have control over all of the titles, meta descriptions, and heading tags on your website. With Showit, editing your site’s SEO features is simple and all happens in a sidebar within the website editor. Can WordPress, Pixieset, or Wix do that for you? Probably not without a fight!
Showit has incredible power for placing elements on your site. Like, seriously. You can pretty much drop a photo anywhere on your website page. This makes it easy to play with depth, fun shapes, and galleries that auto-transition to the next image. Speaking of photo galleries, the gallery editor on Showit is super easy to use. Switching out galleries is no longer something to dread.
A lot of my photographer clients who use Pixieset love it for delivering client galleries for download, but they do NOT love hosting using it as a website builder. Their main complaints are that they hate updating their website, struggle to display examples of their work, etc. I often see photographers using Pixieset just slapping every client gallery on their website and not protecting their work — so all a person has to do to use YOUR images without giving you credit is download your pics and leave. Yikes!
I visit a LOT of websites for photographers, and I can usually tell that the site has been built on Showit in seconds. Some of my favorite photographer websites built on Showit include Between the Pine, Rhody Ray, and Danielle Williams (designed by yours truly!)
Take a look below at how Danielle’s site transformed when we built her website on Showit. She previously used Pixieset, and you can see how her site was functional but seemed to lack personality. Danielle wanted a website design that reflected her emotive, warm editing style and also felt customized for her ideal kind of work: elopements and destination weddings. She wanted a retro color pallette and stamp/postcard-inspired branding. . . so we ran with it!
And this doesn’t include the ADORABLE postcard feature we used for her homepage testimonials and her signature services. You can check them out by visiting her website!
I have a few recommendations for this. If you feel like a pretty tech savvy photographer, you could try switching your website builder over on your own and use one of Showit’s free templates. Showit has incredible customer service and are super responsive, so they can help you out. However, you’ll definitely get the most bang for your buck if you work directly with a website designer. I tend not to recommend navigating a website redesign on your own using Showit.
A website designer is going to have the same nagging attention to detail about your site as you do when you edit your photos. They’re going to scrutinize the spacing of elements, SEO features, the sitemap, and accessibility on your site. They also have the patience needed to test your website on multiple browsers and devices!
Think of it like this: How many clients are you missing out on because your current website isn’t making the cut? If you booked 30% more clients due to having a better website, how many clients would you need to book before you receive what you paid for to have your website designed back to you?
You can join the ranks of photographers who have switched to Showit as their website builder, too. Find out how we can make it happen here.
